Trading

Perpetual futures

Crypto futures with no expiry, kept near spot via funding rates.

Definition

In depth

Perpetual futures (perps) are the dominant derivative in crypto. They never settle; instead, every 8 hours a funding payment flows between longs and shorts to nudge the contract price back toward the spot index.
