Leverage

Borrowing capital to amplify position size, magnifying both gains and losses.

Definition

In depth

Leverage lets a trader control a position larger than their own capital — e.g. 10x leverage means a $1,000 margin controls a $10,000 position. Gains and losses are both magnified, and the position is force-closed (liquidated) if losses exceed margin.
