Glossary

Basics

Blockchain

A distributed, append-only ledger replicated across many computers.

Definition

In depth

A blockchain is a tamper-resistant database where transactions are grouped into blocks, cryptographically linked to the previous block, and stored on thousands of computers (nodes) at once. Because no single party controls the ledger, anyone can verify the full history without trusting an intermediary.
